Reading for Fun
- Be Your Children's Company-
Reading is a terrific way to explore life, to explore the world, and to explore oneself in-depth. However, with limited vocabulary and without relevant reading skills, it can be intimidating and frustrating for the kids to read books in English. At the elementary level, the major focus of English reading education is to help the kids develop their skills in listening to stories and their skills to sound out simple text. The teachers at Wenhua have selected some materials for the kids to practice these skills at home. These materials are placed in our library for your children to check out. Here are some of the ways for you to build these skills together with your children.
1. Listen to stories with your kids
Some of the series have CDs attached at the back of the book. You can listen to these CDs with your kids. You can chat with your kids about the content but do not test them. Reading is supposed to be voluntary and fun.
2. Listen to your kids
Listen to them when they want to share about the books they read. Encourage them to read more and know more.
3. Read with your kids
Be your children's company when they are reading. If you cannot read for them, simply read something, like newspapers or magazines. with them. Create a reading session within a day or a week.
